Tests By Type

Urine testing has been the industry standard for many years. It is a reliable test with a typical detection window of 1 to 4 days. However it has drawbacks such as shy bladder issues, opportunity for dilution or adulteration, and the requirement of observation by same gender personnel for observed collections.

Norchem offers a broad menu of urine drug tests which can be included as part of a custom panel specific to your agency’s needs. This menu includes the typical drugs of abuse as well as the increasingly abused prescription drugs, and newly developed synthetic street drugs like Spice and Bath Salts.

All screening tests are performed by Immunoassay on the most current instrument technology. Confirmation tests are performed using either gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) or the superior technique of liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). All non-negative screens must be confirmed prior to any legal action. Confirmations by GC/MS or LC/MS/MS are legally defensible evidence of drug use.

Confirmation results are reported as Positive or Negative based on industry standard cut-off levels. Norchem will also report a level of drug detected, if any, if requested by our clients, on both positive and negative confirmations.

Oral Fluid testing eliminates shy bladder issues, same gender collection issues, and is extremely difficult to adulterate or dilute. Drugs become present in oral fluid more quickly than in urine, but are present for shorter periods, particularly for THC.

Norchem has seen an ever increasing demand in oral fluid testing, largely due to the ease of specimen collection, the fact there are no gender issues with observed collections, and that oral fluid specimens are extremely difficult to dilute or adulterate. Norchem offers a full array of drug testing and continues to add drug testing options as those tests become available. Oral fluid testing is ideal for detecting recent use, as drugs become detectable in oral fluid quicker than in urine. Drugs also have a somewhat shorter detection window in oral fluid, most notably with THC, consequently, urine and oral fluid results may not match if directly compared.

Screening tests are performed by Immunoassay and confirmation tests are performed by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry LC-MS/MS. As with urine testing, all non-negative screens must be confirmed prior to any legal action.

Hair testing provides a long view of past drug use. It can show use within the last 3 months and can help determine what the client’s drug of choice is. Hair testing offers the longest detection window. It cannot be used to detect recent usage.

Screening tests are performed by Immunoassay and confirmation tests are performed by tandem mass spectrometry MS/MS. As with urine testing, all non-negative screens must be confirmed prior to any legal action.
